Meet our instructor

Jan Foster

I’m a lifelong dog owner with a deep passion for bringing out the best of every dog I work with. This, combined with professional training, allows me to see dogs not just as learners, but as individuals with their own needs, emotions and potential

Before becoming a dog trainer, I worked in roles that required advanced communication and teaching skills. This background means I’m not only skilled at training dogs — I’m skilled at supporting you. I understand how people learn, how to break information down clearly, and how to guide you step by step so you feel confident, supported, and empowered.

My dog training qualifications give me a solid foundation in canine behaviour, learning theory, and practical training techniques. I blend this knowledge with empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to helping you and your dog thrive together.

What I offer is a unique combination:
· A lifetime of hands-on dog experience.
· Professional dog training education.
· Advanced human communication and teaching skills.
· A calm, supportive approach that builds confidence at both ends of the lead.

This means you receive training that is not only effective for your dog, but also clear, encouraging, and tailored to how you learn best.

Pups and Pooches Dog Training (Chester)

Pups and Pooches Dog Training, Chester, provides training grounded in the most up-to-date understanding of how dogs learn and what they need to truly thrive, not just cope.

My approach focuses on building emotional wellbeing, confidence, and calmness so that your dog can enjoy life and meet its full potential.

To support this, I’ve invested in specialist training to become a Mantrailing Instructor (a scent-based sport that taps into a dog’s natural abilities and channels them in a way that grows confidence, focus, and emotional stability) and a Scurry Dog Instructor.

Scurry Dog fits perfectly with my wider training philosophy: learning should be enjoyable, emotionally supportive, and tailored to the individual dog.

It’s another way I help dogs thrive - not just survive.
By combining evidence-based training with a deep understanding of canine behaviour and emotional health, I help you build a relationship with your dog that feels calmer, clearer, and more connected.
